The programme’s mix of quantitative research and practical examples and integrated insights from behavioural economics and psychology give you a thorough understanding of your discipline, making you a valuable asset to any firm.
With the broad range of skills, in-depth knowledge and international expertise this programme provides, you’ll have everything you need to start your career. Your Master’s degree in Business Economics also provides you with an excellent opportunity to go on to doctoral studies in a thriving PhD programme taught by international experts.
The Master of Science in Business Economics is a one-year programme of 60 ECTS credits (1 ECTS credit = 0.5 US credits). The academic year runs from September to the beginning of July and is divided into two semesters, each with three periods. Each period is rounded off with an examination.
Your first semester you'll take courses such as Managerial Economics, Strategy, and Behavioural Economics, offering both insights into psychological behaviour and frameworks for thorough analysis. A course on Applied Econometrics further teaches you about analysis, discussing a powerful analytical tool and its applications: the regression model. Markets and Organisations provides a deeper look into the foundations of organisations.
In your second semester, in Power and Authority in Organisations you study the allocation of authority, looking at the extent of centralisation, acquisition and dissemination of knowledge, as well as the motives behind it. In Performance Management, you can opt to get a more practical approach to human research management within organisations. The elective course Competition Policy provides you with a wider perspective on the regulatory environment in which international companies operate. The rest of your time is spent on the Master's thesis with a research seminar to prepare for and guide the process.
The Master's thesis is the final piece of work you will be required to complete prior to graduation. You’ll write the thesis based on your chosen track, and will be supervised by one of the researchers from this specialisation.
Graduates from the Managerial Strategy & Economics track go on to positions as internal organisation experts and in human resource management. The options are as wide and diverse as there are corporate organisations in the world.
